What Is Hypoallergenic Dog Food?

It is very common for a dog to develop some form of intolerance or allergy to certain chemicals or even some meat. Most commercial pet foods contain chemicals, preservatives, flavorings or colorings and ingredients, and these may irritate the stomach potentially all of your dog. It is vital that if your dog is showing signs of a sensitive stomach, identifying the offending agent and remove from your diet.

For those who prefer to buy commercially produced pet food, many brands of specialty products hypoallergenic pet foods, which contain no preservatives, colorings, flavorings or any other common allergen. These foods are usually the stomach of a dog, but are more expensive than other foods.

Preparing food for your dog yourself is another way to give your dog food hypoallergenic dog. It is relatively easy, much cheaper than buying commercial dog food, and has the added advantage of knowing exactly what and how much your pet is eating. It is also a much healthier alternative for your dog.

Another good reason to make the food your dog yourself is the quality of the ingredients in commercial dog food. In the last 100 years, people have become convinced that the commercial dog food is the only healthy diet for dogs. However, many of the ingredients listed on packages of dog food commercial substances that are labeled as unfit for human consumption. These include chicken and meat by-products (beaks, feet, intestines, heads, etc.) and grains and vegetables disrepair. These low quality ingredients may be causing your dog's allergy.

It is highly unlikely that you eat any of these ingredients yourself, or give to another person. Instead use fresh ingredients and good quality. Not your dog deserve the same?

Symptoms of food allergies in dogs
There are a variety of symptoms of food allergies, and may differ from dog to dog. Identify that a dog is suffering from a food allergy can be difficult, however, as these symptoms may be signs of other ailments. If your pet shows any of the symptoms listed below or any other symptom that concerns you, it is best to take them to the vet as soon as possible.

1. Constant ear infections
2. Scratch
3. Hair loss
4. Chronic Vomiting
5. Diarrhea
6. Scaly or dry and itchy in the groin, legs, feet, face and ears

Treatment of symptoms of food allergy
The obvious long-term treatment is to remove the irritant of the dog's diet. Meanwhile, if your pet is peeling or itching, you can put the animal in a bath of cold water with Epsom salts or oatmeal to soothe the itching and flaking. You can also use some antihistamines, so check with your veterinarian before administering any antihistamines.
